IOA knocks down tent of displaced Palestinian widow

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- The Israeli occupation authority on Sunday knocked down the tent of Um Kamel (Fawzia Al-Kurd) in occupied Jerusalem for the fifth time. She had pitched her tent in the Sheikh Jarrah suburb after members of a Jewish fanatic group expelled her from her home in the same neighborhood.

Israeli border policemen escorted the bulldozers that leveled the tent and assaulted a number of sympathizers including foreigners who tried to prevent the bulldozers from finishing the job.

Um Kamel said that the IOA bulldozers, escorted by Israeli police, sealed the entire area surrounding the tent before starting to bring it down.

She said that she asked the officer in charge to show her the demolition order but he said that orders were issued that the tent should be permanently destroyed and then tried to assault her.

However, Um Kamel affirmed that the tent was legal and that it was given to her by the Red Cross, charging that the IOA only wants to oppress the Palestinians.

Inhabitants of the suburb and a number of solidarity activists said that they would pitch the tent anew despite the intensified presence of Israeli border police in the vicinity.

The IOA, meanwhile, also officially notified five families in Tana village east of Nablus on Sunday that they should evacuate their homes the soonest because the Israeli occupation forces would flatten them.

The IOA earlier notified 25 citizens in the same village that their homes would be knocked down. The IOF troops also seized 12,000 dunums of the town's 18,000 dunums and blocked entry of citizens into those lands.

IOF soldiers last night stormed the town of Khader, Bethlehem district, stormed a number of houses and provocatively searched them at the pretext of looking for youths who threw stones at Israeli vehicles passing near their village.

In the Gaza Strip, a Palestinian young man was killed and 6 others hurt when a tunnel collapsed over their heads on the Egyptian-Palestinian borders in Rafah, south of the Strip.

Medical and local sources told PIC reporter that Ziad Al-Agha, 25, was killed when the Egyptian forces dropped a gas bomb into the tunnel leading to its collapse while six others were injured.
