BRUSSELS, (PIC)-- European lawmakers have urged the presidency of the European parliament to play an active role in reconstructing the Gaza Strip which sustained massive destruction during 23 days of Israeli aggression.
In coordination with the Palestinian Awda center and the European campaign to lift the siege, the parliamentary delegation met Hans-Gert Pottering, the speaker of the European parliament in Brussels, on Thursday and briefed him on the impacts of the massive destruction caused by Israel in Gaza.
The delegation headed by MP Nazir Ahmed, a member of the British House of Lords, stressed the need to contribute without delay to the reconstruction efforts in Gaza either through dealing directly with the government of premier Ismail Haneyya or through European agencies.
During the meeting British lawmaker Jenny Tonge underlined that the European union should speak with all parties in the Palestinian arena without exception especially since the current situation of destruction and displacement needs swift handling.
The delegation also called for opening investigation in the war crimes committed by Israel in order to file charges against its leaders.
In conclusion, the delegation handed Pottering a detailed report about the situation in Gaza at all levels.http://www.palestine-info.co.uk/en/default.
