WARSAW, (PIC)-- Former PA chief and Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas has expressed readiness to pursue peace negotiations with any Israeli occupation government produced by the elections. Abbas's announcement came while blood of Palestinian children and innocent civilians that was shed by the Israeli war machine was still visible in the streets of Gaza Strip. In a press statement he made from the Polish capital Warsaw on Monday, Abbas said, "I don’t know who will win the elections in Israel, but we will cooperate with any Israeli government produced by those elections based on the bilateral agreements and international resolutions issued till now". "We expect the new Israeli government to halt construction and expansion of settlements (in the West Bank)…if they don’t stop those activities I wonder what would happen to the peace process… I want Israel to fulfill all its obligations, otherwise, we all would be threatened by violence and terrorism", Abbas added. Abbas had engaged the Israeli occupation government of Ehud Olmert in peace negotiations over the past four years since he became the PA chief in 2005, but expansion and construction of new settlements in the West Bank continued every day. Contradicting remarks of his boss, Abbas's spokesman Nabil Abu Rudaina, who accompanies Abbas in his European tour, claimed that the Palestinian leadership will not deal with any Israeli government not committed to the peace process, the two-state solution, the roadmap, the Arab peace initiative, and halting settlement activities, saying that the Palestinians are committed to those points. Since the ill-fated Oslo agreement the Fatah-led PLO signed with Israel in 1993, the frequency of settlement construction in the West Bank and the occupied city of Jerusalem increased rapidly despite Abbas and Fatah leaders' threats to stop peace negotiations if those activities were not halted. Meanwhile, the Israeli English-language newspaper the Jerusalem Post said on Tuesday that the Israeli war ministry was planning to boost Abbas's authority in the West Bank in the event the prisoners' swap deal with Hamas, which is expected to enhance Hamas's popularity, took place. The paper quoted officials in the war minister's office as saying that one of those options to boost Abbas was handing him security responsibility in one of the West Bank cities such as Tulkarem. http://www.palestine-info.co.uk/en/default. |

Pemimpin-pemimpin Israel mula gelabah .

LONDON, (PIC)-- A marathon aid convoy from London organized by British lawmaker George Galloway is expected to be leaving for the Gaza Strip on 14 February carrying material aid and raising the banner of Palestine in all countries it passes through. The convoy will be led by a British fire truck, ambulances, and many vehicles full of humanitarian aid given by various communities and organizations in Britain. The participants in the trip will be traveling for 16 days through France, Spain, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt and then through Rafah into Gaza, during which they will raise funds and other donations in kind for the besieged Gaza people. Spokesman for the popular compaign against the siege Rami Abdo said that the trip named "lifeline for Gaza" would be the largest and most prominent move in protest of the unjust Israeli siege on Gaza. Abdo pointed out that the enthusiasm for participating in this trip exceeded all expectations especially since a large number of organizations are determined to gain access to Gaza no matter how many challenges they may face, inviting the media to cover and highlight this humanitarian trip. For her part, Sally Ammur, the local coordinator of the campaign, stated that the lifeline for Gaza convoy is supported mainly by the "stop the war coalition", the Anglo-Arab organization as well as several British trade unions and Islamic organizations. http://www.palestine-info.co.uk/en/default |

DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- Dr. Osama Al-Ashkar, the executive director of the popular campaign for celebrating Jerusalem as capital of the Arab culture, disclosed on Sunday that the initiation of related activities was postponed to the 30th of March due to the Israeli aggression on Gaza. Moreover, Ashkar stressed that his group wasn’t competing with any party on the legitimacy, saying, "We are a popular campaign that expresses its vision with clear principles representing the supreme values of the Palestinian people". He also pointed out that his group was concerned with Jerusalem as a whole unlike others who only focus on the eastern part of the city. http://www.palestine-info.co.uk/en/default |
Mizan center demands Israel to probe torture of prisoners from Gaza
|
|
GAZA, (PIC)-- The Mizan center for human rights reported that it filed four complaints with the Israeli military prosecutor and the legal advisor to the Israeli government demanding them to conduct an investigation into the torture of Palestinian prisoners from the Gaza Strip kidnapped during the last Israeli war. In a press statement received on Sunday by the PIC, the center underlined that the information obtained by its lawyer based on testimonies of prisoners released recently confirmed that the IOF troops had tortured and maltreated them. According to the testimonies, the IOF troops were using batons and rifle butts to beat the prisoners as well as they were shackling and blindfolding prisoners in painful positions for long hours. The center expressed its strong condemnation of the Israeli persistence in committing serious and organized violations against the rules of international humanitarian law and human rights principles especially the convention against torture. It re-emphasized that the convention against torture stipulates, in the second article, that no exceptional circumstances whatsoever, whether a state of war or a threat of war, internal political instability or any other public emergency, may be invoked as a justification of torture. Mizan also recalled that the same article of the convention states that an order from a superior officer or a public authority may not be invoked as a justification of torture. The center called on the international community especially the high contracting parties to the Geneva convention and the committee on the convention against torture to work on stopping the Israeli torture practices against Palestinian prisoners and to consider measures to compel Israel to abide by human rights standards when dealing with them. http://www.palestine-info.co.uk/en/default |

|
|
RAFAH, (PIC)-- Dr. Mahmoud Al-Zahhar, one of the prominent Hamas leaders, on Saturday said that calm with the "Zionist occupation" is a unanimously approved Palestinian demand to protect the accomplishments of the Palestinian people. Zahhar told reporters at Rafah crossing before departure for Egypt at the head of a Hamas delegation that his team members would meet with Hamas leaders from Damascus to crystallize a final position regarding calm. The delegation carries the position of all Palestinian factions, he said, adding that aggression must stop and siege lifted in order to allow for the reconstruction of destroyed homes and infrastructure. Zahhar would not comment on news reports that a prisoners' swap agreement between Hamas and Israel with Turkish mediation was about to be concluded. The Hamas leader, in his first appearance after the war on Gaza, said commenting on news that he was injured and carried to Egyptian hospitals for treatment during the war "My assassination is an Israeli wish". The Hamas delegation also included Dr. Salah Al-Bardawil, Nizar Awadallah and Taher Al-Nunu. |
