US codepink to visit Gaza to witness destruction, meet officials

WASHINGTON, (PIC)-- The US codepink women for peace organization announced the arrival of its delegation to Cairo en route to the Gaza Strip to witness the horrific damage of the 22-day Israeli attacks, demand an opening of the Rafah border crossing for humanitarian aid, and meet with Palestinian women's aid groups and, if possible, Hamas officials. The delegation, which includes Medea Benjamin, a codepink co-founder, and retired officer Ann Wright, a former US state department official, plans to enter Gaza, after arrival in Egypt on Friday, and spend few days in Gaza. In a statement, codepink criticized US envoy to the Middle East George Mitchell for not visiting Gaza and meeting with Hamas officials. "What sense does it make to send a special envoy to the Middle East, but not have him visit war-torn Gaza and speak to Hamas?" Benjamin said. She added: "In our visit to Gaza, we will be doing precisely what George Mitchell should be doing; getting an understanding of the devastation that resulted from the Israeli invasion, and talking to governmental, non-governmental and UN representatives." Meanwhile, an official source at the Rafah crossing reported that there are 22 trucks carrying integrated hospital equipment granted by the Turkish Al-Manara society pending entry into Gaza. Erdogan: The main reason for tensions in Gaza is the policy of isolating Hamas

GAZA, (PIC)-- Turkish premier Recep Erdogan stated that the primary cause of the ongoing tensions in the Gaza Strip is the policy of isolating the Hamas Movement, highlighting the need to recognize the legitimacy of the Movement which was democratically elected by the Palestinian people. In an interview with the Washington Post newspaper Erdogan categorically denied that Hamas is part of the Iranian scheme to control the Middle East. "Hamas is not an arm of Iran. It entered the election as a political party. If the whole world had given it a chance of becoming a political player, maybe it would not be in a situation like this after it won the elections, he said. The Turkish premier charged that the world did not respect the will of the Palestinian people, saying: "On the one hand, we defend democracy and try our best to keep democracy in the Middle East, but on the other hand we do not respect the outcome of the ballot box!" "Just imagine, you imprison the speaker of a country as well as some ministers of its government and members of its parliament and then you expect them to sit obediently?" the premier added. As for sending Turkish peacekeeping troops to Gaza, the premier denied any such intention to participate in any international force in Gaza, pointing to the possibility of carrying out the role of observers. The premier noted that there had been no reported injuries in the ranks of Israelis since the ceasefire in June 2008 and the Israelis then kept claiming that rockets were still fired from Gaza, adding that since last December 27, Israel killed 1,300 and wounded 6,000 Palestinians and turned Gaza under siege into debris; in addition to that, Israel did not recognize a resolution issued by the UN security council demanding it to stop its war. Meanwhile,in a letter sent Sunday to Amr Mousa, the secretary-general of the Arab League, the Islamic action front in Jordan hailed the stands of the Turkish premier who withdrew from Davos conference after not being allowed to finish his speech in response to remarks by the Israeli president who justified the killing of citizens in Gaza. In the letter, Zaki Bani Ersheed, the secretary-general of the Islamic action front, criticized Mousa for being a shadow of the stands of the Egyptian regime. "I do not think anyone in the Arab world is unaware of your passive position on the convening of the Arab summit in Doha to support the holocaust victims (in Gaza) and no one forgives your statements which were and still are an echo of the flimsy justifications given by officials of some Arab regimes," Ersheed opined addressing the Arab League head.

Salah: Zionist conference in Jerusalem aims at building the alleged temple

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- The prominent Muslim leader in the 1948-occupied Palestinian lands Sheikh Raed Salah has warned Sunday that the Zionist conference that was held in the occupied city of Jerusalem had asserted Israel's intentions to build the alleged Temple on the ruins of the Aqsa Mosque. In press statements he made in reaction to the said conference, Salah described the meeting as a "failed attempt" from the Jewish organizers to lift morale of the Zionist institution that dropped to low levels after the defeat in Gaza battle. However, Salah cautioned that the conference bears bad omens to Jerusalem and Muslim and Christian holy shrines in it, warning of possible "foolish" acts the Israeli occupation government might possibly take against the Aqsa Mosque. He also pointed out that the Israeli excavations under the Aqsa Mosque reached alarming levels, quoting testimonies of Palestinian residents dwelling near the Mosque that they noticed suspicious Israeli activities and sounds of excavations under parts of the Aqsa Mosque. Moreover, the Muslim leader opined that the purpose behind the bloody Israeli aggression on Gaza was also targeting the Aqsa Mosque and the occupied city of Jerusalem based on the fact that the Palestinian resistance was the only stumbling block before the Israeli schemes against the city. Isnin, 02/02/2009 - HAMAS menegaskan kenyataan Blair, wakil jawatankuasa empat pihak (Amerika Syarikat, PBB, Russia dan Kesatuan Eropah) ke Timur Tengah sebagai ulang tayang bagi senario lama dan bahawa semua percubaan mencampuradukkannya dengan proses damai adalah percubaan yang sia-sia dan tidak dipersetujui oleh HAMAS sejak dahulu dan oleh beberapa pihak Arab dan antarabangsa. HAMAS juga menegaskan kenyataan ini dalam masa yang sama adalah pengiktirafan bahawa HAMAS adalah kuasa utama dalam isu Palestin yang mesti diambil kira.

Blair berkata dalam satu kenyataan akhbar bahawa HAMAS mestilah dilibatkan dalam proses damai, tetapi setelah ia meninggalkan penentangan dan perjuangan serta mengiktiraf negara penjajah Israel.

Yemeni parliament asks government not to receive Abbas

SANA'A, (PIC)-- Yemeni parliament members have tabled a memo with the government asking it not to receive the former PA chief Mahmoud Abbas in Sana'a since his term in office has expired and for siding against resistance in the Israeli aggression on Gaza. The memo, signed by 58 MPs, said that the Yemeni government should not deal with anyone who opposed resistance especially during the latest war on Gaza because they violated all heavenly and earthly rules that allowed any people under occupation to resist that occupation. The deputies also asked the government not to hand the assistance allocated for Gaza reconstruction to Abbas because his tenure had expired. MP Dr. Saleh Al-Sanabani said that Abbas's term as president has ended and he was not fit to speak on behalf of the Palestinians or to represent them because he "sold the Palestine cause and conspired against resistance before the very eyes of the entire world". He stressed that the assistance should be delivered to resistance leaders and to the government of Ismail Haneyya in Gaza. 8 lagi warga Palestin ditahan rejim Zionis.

Ahad, 01/02/2009 - Seramai 8 orang warga Palestin telah di tahan selepas serangan udara bertubi-tubi sejak Rabu lalu. Menurut saksi, tentera Zionis-Israel merempuh masuh dan menggeledah rumah-rumah milik warga Palestin sedang ke semua ahli keluarga di suruh keluar.

Mereka yang ditangkap telah di bawa ke tempat yang tidak diketahui. Sehingga kini, lebih 11 000 warga Palestin yang telah ditahan termasuk kanak-kanak dan wanita. Kebanyakan mereka telah dizalimi dengan kejam ketika dalam tahanan tentera Zionis-Israel.

Tindakan ‘heroic’ Perdana Menteri Turki mendapat tepukan hadirin, Peres terpinga2.

Ahad, 01/02/2009 - Perdana Menteri Turki, Recep Tayyip Erdogan bangun meninggalkan sidang ekonomi dunia di Switzerland dalam keadaan berang sebagai bantahan kerana tidak diberi masa yang mencukupi bagi menjawab kenyataan yang dibuat oleh Simon Peres, Presiden Israel, yang berucap panjang dan memberikan pelbagai alasan terhadap penyembelihan dilakukan tentera Israel di Gaza.

Dalam sidang mengenai Gaza di forum Davos petang Khamis lalu, Peres bercakap selama 25 minit mengatakan HAMAS lah sebenarnya yang mendorong Israel ke kancah peperangan, kerana ia melancarkan roketnya ke kawasan penempatan Israel. Ketika bercakap, Peres menggunakan nada yang keras dan memandang tepat ke arah Erdogan dari masa ke semasa.

Tiba gilirannya, Erdogan membuat komentar dengan berkata, “Peres lebih berusia daripada saya, namun dia menggunakan perkataan yang keras.” Seterusnya beliau menyambung dan menujukan kata-katanya kepada Peres dengan tegas, “Saya masih teringat kepada kanak-kanak yang terbunuh di tepi pantai, saya masih teringat betapa ramai yang telah anda bunuh di Gaza.” Ketika itu, Peres menyampuk, “mereka juga akan melakukan apa yang kami lakukan jika roket-roket tersebut jatuh di Istanbul.”

Erdogan dengan muka yang merah kerana marah juga menujukan kritikan pedas kepada sebahagian hadirin yang bertepuk tangan terhadap ucapan Peres, “adalah suatu yang amat mengaibkan kamu bertepuk tangan terhadap serangan yang membunuh ribuan kanak-kanak dan wanita yang dilakukan oleh tentera Israel di Gaza.”

Baru lebih kurang 10 minit Erdogan berucap, pengerusi majlis memaklumkan waktunya sudah habis. Dalam keadaan marah Erdogan segera beredar sambil memungut failnya seraya berkata, “terima kasih kerana anda tidak memberi peluang untuk saya bercakap.. Saya hanya bercakap separuh daripada masa yang digunakan oleh Peres.. Saya tidak akan datang lagi ke Davos.”

Ketika Erdogan bangun untuk meninggalkan dewan, Peres kelihatan tergamam berpaling ke kiri dan ke kanan tanpa mengeluarkan sepatah perkataan.

Setiausaha Agung Liga Negara Arab, Amru Musa berdiri dan bertepuk tangan dengan gembira kemudian berjabat tangan dengan Erdogan yang meninggalkan dewan di tengah-tengah tepukan daripada beberapa orang hadirin.

Setelah Erdogan meninggalkan dewan, Amru Musa kelihatan berpaling ke kanan dan ke kiri , lalu Setiausaha Agung Bangsa-bangsa Bersatu memintanya duduk lalu beliau kembali mengambil tempat.

Erdogan berkata dalam sidang akhbar yang diadakan selepas forum tersebut, “Peres berucap selama 25 minit, dalam nada keras dan memandang tepat kepada saya dengan cara yang tidak sesuai dengan kebebasan awam.”

Beliau menambah, “apabila saya berucap, tiada pihak yang memberikan saya peluang untuk mengungkapkan pandangan saya, maka adalah suatu yang tepat saya mengambil tindakan meninggalkan forum tersebut.”

Permohonan maaf Israel

Saluran kedua TV Turki melaporkan Peres memohon maaf daripada Erdogan terhadap apa yang berlaku melalui panggilan telefon, tanpa memberikan penghuraian panggilan tersebut. Agensi berita Anatolia juga mengesahkan berita tentang permohonan maaf tersebut. Ia melaporkan daripada sumber-sumber yang hampir dengan Erdogan bahawa Peres menghubungi Perdana Menteri Turki itu selama 5 minit.

Ketika membuat komentar tentang kejadian tersebut, ketua Persatuan Penentang Zionis di Amman, Layth Shubeilat memuji tindakan Erdogan dengan berkata, “pendirian beliau menampilkan kemajuan dari sudut mengambil pendirian yang membebaskan diri daripada warisan sekular Turki.”

Rabu lalu, Erdogan mengutuk pencerobohan Israel terhadap Gaza dan beliau tidak bersetuju langkah mengkategorikan HAMAS sebagai salah sebuah pertubuhan pengganas. Dalam masa yang sama, beliau menyeru Presiden Amerika yang baru, Barrack Obama supaya mengkaji semula definisi pertubuhan-pertubuhan pengganas yang terdapat di Timur Tengah.

Dalam perkembangan berkaitan, Layth Syubeilat mengkritik kehadiran Setiausaha Agung Liga negara Arab ke forum tersebut bersama-sama dengan Perdana Menteri Israel.

Beliau berkata, “Bagaimana bangsa Arab boleh membenarkan Amru Musa duduk bersama dengan pemimpin Israel.” Beliau juga menambah duduknya Amru Musa setelah Erdogan meninggalkan dewan menyebabkan situasi menjadi bertambah rumit. Beliau juga memberikan komentar dengan berkata bahawa para pemimpin Arab tidak tahu apa yang mereka lakukan.”

Akhbar itu turut menyatakan kedahsyatan pemikiran syarikat Mesir tersebut tergamak membekalkan askar-askar rejim Zionis dengan bekalan makanan berlabel “Latha” yang bermaksud “Sedap” pada masa sama , rakyat Mesir berang terhadap pencerobohan Israel terhadap rakyat Gaza .

Hayya: It is time for our people to have new leadership carrying their concerns

GAZA, (PIC)-- Dr. Khalil Al-Hayya, a prominent Hamas leader, stated Friday that it is time for the Palestinian people to see a new leadership carrying their burdens and concerns at home and abroad and protecting their resistance, adding that the Palestinian people would not condone anymore a leadership that accepted humiliation. This came during a massive rally called for by the Hamas Movement in the Gaza city with the participation of the visiting Turkish delegation. The rally was held in support of Hamas political leader Khaled Mashaal's call for forming a new authority for the Palestinian people and to pay a tribute to the position of Turkish premier Recep Erdogan in Davos. In a speech delivered before the rally, Dr. Hayya underlined that Hamas had always extended its hands for the national dialog and called for the rebuilding of the PLO. The Hamas leader stressed that the Palestinian people after all these sacrifices would not accept a leadership compromising the national constants and rights, noting that the PLO was silent during the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip awaiting the chance to announce the defeat of Gaza. Hamas slams Blair's statements as old scenario

GAZA, (PIC)-- The Hamas Movement deplored the statement of Tony Blair, the envoy of the Quartet to the Middle East, in which he said that Hamas must be included in the peace process but after renouncing resistance and recognizing Israel, considering it the same old scenario repeated by the West to cover up for its rejection of the Palestinian democracy. In a press statement received by the PIC, MP Mushir Al-Masri, the secretary-general of the Hamas parliamentary bloc, said that such statements are worthless and ridiculous because the idea of integrating the Movement into the peace process is rejected earlier by the Movement and many Arab and international parties. MP Masri underscored that Blair's statement is considered a recognition that Hamas is a primary force in the Palestinian arena, adding that the repeated talk about not ignoring Hamas confirms the European and global realization that all attempts to eliminate Hamas have failed. The lawmaker noted that the only gateway to the Palestinian cause and the implementation of any agreement can only be achieved through the Movement. For its part, the Palestinian government considered Blair's statement a clear recognition of the centrality of Hamas in the process of conflict and peace in the middle east. In a statement to the Bayan information center, Dr. Yousef Rizqa, an advisor to premier Ismail Haneyya, pointed out that a change can be noticed in Blair's statements about Hamas resulting from the steadfastness of the Gaza Strip in the face of the Israeli aggression. Abu Zuhri: The victory of Gaza is a turning point in the Arab-Israeli conflict

DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri stated Saturday that the victory of the Gaza Strip is a turning point in the history of the Arab-Israeli conflict, adding that the next stage is the stage of the victory of the resistance project and the failure of the settlement project. In an exclusive statement to the PIC, Abu Zuhri said that this initial victory in Gaza encourages the resistance to continue on this path until the liberation of the Aqsa Mosque, considering the victory a new rebirth of the Arab and Islamic nation which revolted all over the world in support of the Palestinian resistance. UN appeals for 613 million dollars to help Palestinians in Gaza

NEW YORK, (PIC)-- The UN launched an appeal on Thursday for 613 million dollars to help the Palestinian people affected by Israel's three-week military aggression on the Gaza Strip, which killed more than 1,300 citizens and injured about 5,300, one third of them children, and caused widespread destruction. These funds will cover the requirements of the UN and other aid agencies for the next six to nine months and cover critical needs such as food, water, sanitation, health care, shelter and education. The funds will also help to remove the debris of war, including unexploded ordnance, finance emergency repairs for basic infrastructure, and provide psychological help for the victims. Another appeal for long-term needs will be launched later. “With the help of this 613 million dollars appeal, the UN and other aid agencies can jump into action to help the 1.4 million civilians in the Gaza Strip to recover,” UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon told a news conference in Davos, warning that without urgent action, Gaza could face a greater humanitarian tragedy. “People have lost their families. They have lost their homes, belongings and livelihoods. Schools, clinics, factories and businesses have been destroyed. Many of Gaza’s inhabitants still lack clean water and electricity. Too many are living in the midst of raw sewage and the threats to their health that brings," Ki-moon explained. The Palestinian government headed by premier Ismail Haneyya continues its efforts to provide urgent relief assistance to the citizens whose homes were destroyed by Israel in order to ensure a decent life for them, pending the reconstruction of their homes. The government delegated the relevant ministries to rapidly recover work in farms and factories which are apt to operate and formed a committee of several ministers to be in contact with the UNRWA to ensure the delivery of relief aid to the rightful citizens. In a statement issued Friday, the government criticized Israel for not releasing food supplies since the beginning of the war on Gaza at the Auja crossing, considering it an attempt to politically pressure the citizens and the government.
